La Solana is a municipality in Ciudad Real, Castile–La Mancha, and this 1 Peseta note is one of thousands of locally issued emergency pieces that flooded Spain during the Civil War after the Republic's decree of June 1937 authorized town councils to produce their own fractional currency to compensate for the acute shortage of coin. The Consejo Municipal issues from smaller Castilian towns are among the least documented in the Gari Monedera corpus — many were printed in tiny runs, often by local printing shops with no prior experience in currency production.
The incomplete Gari reference suggests this piece has not been fully catalogued or authenticated within that system, which is itself useful information for the researcher.
