La Sentiu de Sió is a small municipality in the Lleida province of Catalonia, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency in 1937 after Republican authorities ordered the collectivization of coinage. The state had effectively absorbed metal from circulation, leaving local councils to paper over the gap with their own scrip — legal within the Republican zone but worthless the moment you crossed a municipal boundary.
Printed by Imprenta Unió Obrera in nearby Balaguer, the press responsible for a significant number of Lleida-region municipal notes during this period. Turró 2337.
