La Sénia is a small municipality in the southern reaches of Tarragona province, and like hundreds of Catalan and Valencian towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper currency when the Republic's coin supply collapsed under wartime disruption. The Consell Municipal — operating under the broad fiscal autonomy granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya — authorized these notes locally, with Imprenta Solé in Tarragona handling production for numerous similar municipal emissions across the province.

Turró catalogues over 2,700 distinct Republican municipal issues from 1936–1939; La Sénia's entry at #2330 places it well into that sprawling emergency series. Small-town emissions like this one were redeemed, voided, or simply abandoned when Nationalist forces took the region in early 1939, and survival rates are correspondingly low.
