La Selva del Camp is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper money when the Republic's central supply of small-denomination coinage collapsed entirely. These ajuntament-issued notes — paper currency authorized at the local government level — were a practical response to a genuine monetary vacuum, not a political gesture. Tens of millions of such notes were produced across Republican-controlled territory between 1936 and 1939.

Turró catalogued over 2,700 distinct issues; this note's reference number places it well into that count.
