1 Peseta La Granada del Penedès

One of hundreds of small municipal emergency issues produced across Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War, this note was authorized by the Ajuntament de La Granada del Penedès to plug the catastrophic small-change shortage that followed the hoarding and disappearance of metal coinage after July 1936. La Granada del Penedès is a minor municipality in the Alt Penedès comarca — its wartime population numbered only in the hundreds — which makes survival of any example genuinely uncommon.
