La Floresta is a small locality in the municipality of Les Planes d'Hostoles, Girona province. This 1 peseta note was issued by its Ajuntament — the local municipal council — during the Spanish Civil War emergency coinage crisis of 1936–1937, when the Republican government's inability to maintain adequate small-change supply forced hundreds of Catalan towns to print their own fractional currency. Turró catalogues over a thousand such issues, most produced in tiny runs on whatever card stock the town had available.
The thick paper or card construction is characteristic of the Catalan municipal emissions that lacked access to proper banknote paper entirely.
