La Febró is a mountain village in the Priorat comarca of Tarragona with a population that rarely exceeded a few hundred people. During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican government's decree of 1936 authorizing municipalities to issue their own emergency fractional currency produced an extraordinary proliferation of local paper — thousands of towns and villages printed their own small-denomination notes to compensate for the disappearance of coin from circulation. La Febró's issue is among the most obscure of these, produced at the Tipografia La Fleca in nearby Reus.
Reus served as a printing hub for several Priorat municipalities that lacked any local press infrastructure.
