Opmerkingen

La Bisbal del Penedès is a small municipality in the Baix Penedès comarca of Tarragona, and this note belongs to the vast ecosystem of locally issued emergency currency — *moneda de guerra* or *bitllets locals* — that proliferated across Republican Catalonia after the military uprising of July 1936 disrupted the supply of small-denomination coinage. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized municipal issues precisely because central distribution had collapsed.

Barnadas operated out of El Vendrell, the comarca's principal town, and printed for several surrounding municipalities during this period. The watermark is notable — most emergency municipal issues of this type dispensed with security features entirely, making its inclusion here a minor distinction within the series. Turró catalogues well over a thousand such local issues; this one sits at reference 452.
