Infantes — now Villanueva de los Infantes — was one of hundreds of Spanish municipalities forced to issue emergency local currency during the Civil War after the Republic's central government failed to maintain an adequate supply of small-denomination coinage. These ayuntamiento and consejo issues filled the vacuum left by hoarded bronze and silver, and most were printed or typeset locally on whatever stock was available, which accounts for the heavy card material here.

The Gari Montllor catalog remains the standard reference for these regional Civil War fractionals, but many consejo issues from La Mancha survive in quantities too small for reliable rarity assessment. Infantes was a modestly sized town in Ciudad Real province with no particular printing infrastructure.
