Guardiola de Bages is a small municipality in the Bages comarca, and this 1 Peseta issue belongs to the vast wave of emergency fractional currency — the so-called "moneda de paper" — that flooded Catalonia after July 1936, when the collapse of the Republic's small-change supply forced hundreds of town councils to print their own. The Consell Municipal had no choice; coin hoarding and supply disruption made everyday transactions nearly impossible.

Imprenta Boixeda of Manresa handled production for numerous local councils in the region, which means design quality and paper consistency vary noticeably across the run. Turró#1200 is among the less commonly encountered Bages-area municipals.
