1 Peseta Guadix

Guadix, a small city in Granada province, was in Republican hands during the early years of the Civil War, and like hundreds of other municipalities it issued emergency fractional currency when the central government's small-denomination coinage essentially vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply lost in the chaos of mobilization. These local emergency emissions, known collectively as "moneda municipal," were authorised under a 1937 Republican decree but produced with wildly varying quality and security.

The Consejo Municipal Administrativo — the administrative council that replaced the pre-war ayuntamiento structure in Republican zones — had no printing infrastructure of its own. What that meant in practice for surviving examples is worth examining closely.
