El Centro Obrero Forcallense was a workers' cooperative in the small Castellón municipality of Forcall, and like dozens of similar organizations across Republican-held Spain, it began issuing its own paper scrip in 1937 as the Civil War drained metallic coinage from local circulation. These cooperative emissions were never formally sanctioned by the Republican government — they proliferated out of sheer necessity, with each issuing body responsible for guaranteeing redemption from its own resources.
Survival rates for Forcall scrip are low. The town's population was under a thousand, meaning total print runs were small and few pieces escaped the postwar purges of Republican-associated materials.
