Opmerkingen

Farners de la Selva is a small spa town in the Girona province, and like hundreds of Catalan municipalities in 1937, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency after the Republic's silver and copper coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or lost to wartime disruption. These local emisiones were authorized under a Generalitat de Catalunya decree and were never intended as anything more than a stopgap to keep small transactions moving in towns where change had become impossible to find.

Turró catalogues this note at #991. Municipal issues from smaller Selva comarca towns survive in genuinely low numbers; most were redeemed or simply disintegrated in daily use during a period when paper quality was already declining sharply across the Republican zone.
