Estopiñán — a small municipality in the Ribagorza comarca of Huesca province — issued this note during the Spanish Civil War under the Republican zone's emergency local currency program. When the central government's coin supply collapsed in 1936–37, hundreds of Spanish municipalities were authorized, or simply took it upon themselves, to print fractional paper currency to keep local commerce moving. Lafont i Miralles in Barcelona handled lithographic work for numerous such councils across Catalonia and Aragon.
The Gari Montserrat census documents four distinct varieties for this denomination from Estopiñán, this being type D.
