El Papiol is a small municipality in the Baix Llobregat comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued its own emergency fractional currency after the Republic's collapse of normal monetary supply chains in 1936–37. The Secretariat Català printing house in Barcelona produced notes for numerous municipalities simultaneously, which accounts for the family resemblance across many of these local emissions — same paper stock, similar typographic conventions, different town names stamped or printed across the face.

Turró catalogues this as a single-type emission, suggesting El Papiol issued no complementary denominations under this authority.
