Creixell de Mar is a coastal settlement of no great size — in 1937 it had perhaps a few hundred permanent residents — which makes the decision to issue locally printed emergency currency here a reflection of just how thoroughly the Republican zone had fragmented its monetary supply during the Civil War. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized municipalities to issue their own moneda local when the coin shortage became acute, and hundreds did, most relying on whatever press was nearest.

Sugrañes in Tarragona handled a significant volume of these small municipal issues from across the province. Turró 900 is among the more obscure entries in the Catalan local currency series.
