1 Peseta Consuegra

Consuegra, a small Castilian town in Toledo province, was firmly in Republican territory during the first half of the Civil War, and like hundreds of municipalities caught short by the hoarding and disappearance of metallic coinage in 1936–37, its town council issued its own emergency paper fractional currency. These local "billetes de necesidad" were a nationwide phenomenon — the central Republican government was aware of them and largely tolerated the practice — but the sheer number of issuing bodies meant quality control was nonexistent. A municipal rubber stamp served as the only security feature.

Survival rates for Consuegra issues are low. Small-town wartime scrip was typically redeemed quickly or simply discarded when the military situation changed.
