1 Peseta Chinchilla

Chinchilla de Monte-Aragón, a small Castilian municipality in Albacete province, issued emergency paper money during the Spanish Civil War when the Republican government authorized local authorities to produce low-denomination scrip to counter the near-total disappearance of coin from circulation. The hoarding crisis of 1936–1937 was acute enough that even 1-peseta pieces vanished, forcing hundreds of municipalities to become de facto issuers.

Survival rates for these provincial emissions vary wildly. Chinchilla's issues are among the less commonly encountered, owing to the town's small population and limited print runs.
