Chillón is a small municipality in Ciudad Real province, Castile–La Mancha. Like hundreds of Spanish towns cut off from reliable coin supply during the Civil War, its municipal council issued emergency fractional currency — these locally produced notes, collectively known as billetes locales or papel moneda de necesidad, filled a gap that the Republican government in Madrid could not adequately address from 1936 onward. The thick card stock was a practical choice: thinner paper deteriorated quickly in daily retail use.

The Gari Montllor reference remains unassigned, suggesting the cataloguer either lacked a confirmed specimen or the issue was documented too late for full classification.
