Centelles is a small municipality in Osona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional paper currency after the nationalist blockade strangled the supply of Republican coinage. The Ajuntament had no choice — without small change, local commerce simply stopped. These municipal emissions were technically illegal under central Republican banking law but were tolerated out of necessity.
Imprenta Ausetana in nearby Vic printed for several Osona comarca councils during this period, which gives the series a regional coherence unusual among wartime municipals. Turró 804 is among the more localized issues in the Catalan corpus.
