Opmerkingen

Castellserà is a small municipality in the Urgell comarca of Catalonia with a population that barely exceeded a thousand during the Civil War years. Like hundreds of Catalan and Aragonese municipalities in 1936–37, the Ajuntament issued its own fractional paper currency after the Republican government's coin supply collapsed under wartime pressure and hoarding. These local emissions — generically called "moneda municipal" or "bitllets locals" — were a patchwork solution, legally tolerated by the Generalitat de Catalunya through a series of decrees that gave municipal councils the authority to issue small-denomination notes.

Grafos, operating under collectivization by its workers after July 1936, handled a significant volume of these municipal commissions. The official stamp serves as the primary authentication device — a common shortcut when a small town lacked the means or time for more elaborate security printing.
