Cassà de la Selva is a small industrial town in the Gironès comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, its ajuntament began issuing emergency fractional currency in 1937 after Republican-zone silver and copper coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The Generalitat de Catalunya had authorized local bodies to fill the gap, producing a chaotic but historically rich proliferation of hyper-local paper money across the region.

Turró 687 places this among the documented Catalan municipal issues, printed locally by Vilallonga — a detail that matters, since many comparable towns had to outsource to Barcelona printers. The note never left its immediate area in any practical sense.
