Caldes d'Estrac is a small coastal town north of Barcelona — its 1937 peseta belongs to the enormous wave of emergency municipal fractional currency that flooded Catalonia during the Civil War after the Republic's coin supply effectively collapsed. The Generalitat could not keep pace with demand for small change, so hundreds of *ajuntaments* printed their own. Turró catalogues over a thousand distinct issues from this period alone.
El Secretariat Català handled printing for several of these municipal issues out of Barcelona, functioning more as a civic printing house than a specialist security printer.
