Bordils is a small municipality in the Gironès comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly sized towns it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after Republican authorities authorized local governments to address a severe shortage of small coinage. The Consell Municipal issues from this period were purely practical stop-gaps — printed locally, often on whatever card stock was available, and redeemable only within the issuing municipality's own commerce.
Turró catalogues this as #485, placing it firmly within the dense cluster of Catalan wartime locals. The thick card construction was typical of municipalities that lacked access to proper banknote paper.
