1 Peseta Bobera

Bovera is a tiny municipality in the Priorat comarca of Tarragona, with a population that barely reached a few hundred during the 1930s. Like dozens of other Catalan villages, it issued its own emergency paper money during 1937 when the Republican government's currency supply broke down under wartime pressure and small-denomination coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely. These hyper-local emissions — collectively called "moneda de paper" — were authorized under a 1936 Generalitat decree that gave municipalities limited rights to issue low-value notes as provisional change substitutes.

Turró 523 is among the more obscure entries in that catalog. Survival rates for single-municipality Catalan civil war issues correlate directly with how isolated the town was — Bovera's remoteness likely kept print runs small.
