1 Peseta Biosca

Biosca is a tiny municipality in the Segarra comarca of Lleida, and in 1937 its town council was doing what hundreds of Catalan and Spanish municipalities did during the Civil War: printing its own emergency fractional currency because the Republic's coin supply had effectively collapsed. Hoarding and metal requisitions had stripped small-denomination coinage from circulation almost entirely, forcing local governments to fill the gap with paper.

These Catalan municipal issues are catalogued exhaustively by Turró precisely because survival rates vary so sharply — smaller poblacions often printed in very short runs, and many notes were redeemed locally and destroyed. Biosca's issues are among the harder finds in the series.
