Beniarrés is a small municipality in the Comtat region of Valencia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency paper money when the Republic's central supply of coin and small-denomination notes collapsed under wartime pressure. These municipally issued notes — collectively known as papel moneda local — filled a practical gap: copper and silver had been hoarded or melted, and the Republican government could not distribute fractional currency fast enough to keep local commerce moving.
The Gari Mon census documents this specific emission, but survivorship varies sharply even among notes from the same run. Small Valencian council issues were typically printed in very limited quantities, often on whatever paper stock was locally available.
