1 Peseta Bellvís

Bellvís is a small municipality in the Pla d'Urgell comarca of Lleida province, and this note is one of hundreds of emergency local issues that proliferated across the Republican zone after July 1936, when the collapse of normal commerce and the hoarding of metallic coin left small communities functionally without small change. The Generalitat de Catalunya formally authorized municipal emissions, which is why so many survive with traceable printers — Xavier Asensio in Lleida serviced numerous surrounding ayuntamientos during this period.
