Bélgida is a tiny municipality in the Valencia region — population well under a thousand even today — and its 1937 peseta note belongs to the dense, chaotic world of Spanish Civil War municipal emergency currency. When the Republican government failed to keep small-denomination coinage in circulation, hundreds of local councils across the Republican zone printed their own notes to fill the gap. Most were produced on whatever paper and equipment was locally available, with little coordination and no central oversight.
The Turró and Gari catalogues together document thousands of these emissions. Bélgida's entry is among the more obscure ones, which itself signals limited print runs and very restricted local circulation.
