Bechí is a small municipality in Castellón province, and like dozens of Valencian towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 when the Republic's small-change shortage became acute. These municipal emissions were authorized under wartime necessity rather than any coherent monetary policy — each town effectively designed and printed what it could manage locally.
The Gari Mon reference places this within a well-documented but sprawling catalogue of Spanish Civil War local issues. Survival rates vary enormously by municipality; smaller print runs from minor towns were often destroyed or lost when Nationalist forces took control.
