Beas de Segura is a small olive-growing municipality in the sierra of Jaén, Andalucía. This note belongs to the enormous wave of emergency municipal paper issued across Republican-held Spain during the first months of the Civil War, when the hoarding of coin — copper, brass, anything metallic — caused change to vanish almost entirely from everyday commerce. Hundreds of town councils printed their own solutions, most on whatever stock was locally available, authenticated by an official rubber stamp in lieu of any formal security printing.
The stamp is the only thing standing between this and a blank piece of paper.
