Opmerkingen

The Preventori Judicial in Barcelona was the detention facility for individuals awaiting trial under the Republican judiciary during the Civil War. Its Economat — an internal canteen or commissary — issued this token note so that detainees and staff could make purchases within the institution without handling official currency. These hyper-local emissions were a practical response to the chronic small-change shortage that plagued the Republican zone from 1937 onward, when hoarding and monetary instability stripped coins almost entirely from everyday transactions.

The AL#1371 reference places it within Andreu/Llorens's extensive census of Catalan Civil War emergency issues. Attrition was high — few had any reason to preserve commissary scrip after 1939.
