Agrupación Frontones was a workers' consumer cooperative operating in Barcelona during the Republic's wartime collectivization drive. Notes like this one — issued by enterprise-level cooperatives rather than any banking authority — circulated internally as a substitute for coinage, which had vanished almost entirely from Catalonia by mid-1937 due to hoarding and the collapse of normal supply chains.

Imprenta El Secretariat Català printed a considerable volume of this emergency fractional paper for various Barcelona collectives, which accounts for the shared thick-stock paper found across multiple AL-series issues from the same period. The cooperative's own seal authenticated each note in lieu of any formal monetary guarantee.
