Beschrijving voorzijde Letterpress-printed note in red on a plain cream paper stock. A decorative rectangular border composed of scrollwork and corner ornaments frames the entire face. The issuing authority name appears in two lines at the top, separated from the lower field by a double rule; the numeral '1' is set within a solid red circle at centre, with the denomination 'PESSETA' in spaced capital letters below.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse carries a blind impression of the obverse design printed through the thin stock, appearing as a mirror image in faint red. The same scrollwork border, central numeral circle, and text are visible in reverse as a show-through, with no independently printed design elements; the note is effectively unprinted on this side.

Opmerkingen

Barberà de la Conca is a small municipality in the Conca de Barberà comarca of Tarragona province, and like hundreds of other Catalan towns it was forced to print its own fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's coins disappeared from circulation almost entirely by late 1936. These local emergency issues — collectively known as moneda local or paper moneda — were produced under decree by the Generalitat de Catalunya, which authorized municipalities to cover the acute shortage of small change. The Ajuntament's issue was lithographed locally at negligible print runs, which is precisely why survivorship is uneven across the Turró-catalogued series.
