The legend 'PESETA' is inscribed along the lower arc in bold raised capitals. Four groups of three raised dots are evenly distributed around the inner border, punctuating the design at regular intervals. The overall composition is characteristic of the austere typographic style adopted by Catalan municipal emergency issues of the Spanish Civil War period. |

L'Ametlla del Vallès issued this piece during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican zone faced an acute shortage of small change. The central government's inability to maintain adequate coin supply prompted hundreds of Catalan municipalities to authorize their own emergency coinage — local paper, cardboard, and metal tokens that circulated as legal tender within their issuing community. Aluminium was the material of necessity; copper and nickel had been redirected toward the war effort.
The Turró reference distinguishes this as the 3.2 variety, implying at least one earlier die or planchet variant exists for this denomination from the same municipality.
