Almusafes is a small municipality in Valencia province, and this note is one of hundreds of locally issued emergency pieces produced during the Spanish Civil War when the Republican zone faced a chronic shortage of small-denomination coinage. The Consejo Municipal — essentially the wartime governing body — issued these to keep daily commerce functioning. Production was almost certainly local, with modest printing resources, which is consistent with the quality seen across this series.
Survival rates for Valencian municipal notes vary wildly by town. Almusafes issues are among the less frequently encountered in the Turró corpus.
