Alfafara is a village in Valencia's Comtat region with a population that barely exceeded a few hundred during the 1930s. Like dozens of similarly tiny Valencian municipalities, its town council issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after Republican-controlled areas faced a catastrophic shortage of small-denomination coinage — silver and copper had largely vanished from circulation by mid-1937. These local emission schemes were technically sanctioned under Republican economic emergency powers but wildly inconsistent in execution.
The Gari Mon reference places this among the documented Valencian municipal issues, though survivorship among notes from villages this small is genuinely thin. Print runs for councils of Alfafara's size were typically in the low thousands at most.
