Aldea del Rey is a small municipality in Ciudad Real province, Castilla-La Mancha. Like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper scrip in 1937 when Republican-zone coinage essentially vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. The Consejo Municipal issues of this period were technically illegal under central Republican monetary authority but were tolerated out of necessity, since without them local commerce would have seized up entirely.

The Garicoin (Gari Mon) reference catalog remains the primary finding tool for these municipal emissions. The thick card stock construction was deliberate — easier to produce locally and marginally more durable than standard paper in high-turnover retail use.
