Alcalá del Júcar was a tiny Castilian municipality that, like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, found itself without sufficient small change and simply printed its own. These local emergency issues — guerra civil fractional notes — were technically illegal under Republican monetary law but were tolerated out of necessity. The Consejo Municipal issues from this village are among the smallest format emergency notes produced anywhere in Spain during 1936–1938, a practical consequence of materials scarcity rather than any deliberate design economy.
Gari's catalogue remains the primary reference for these Albacete province municipals, and the #70-C designation within that series suggests at least minor typographic or color variants exist for Alcalá del Júcar's 1 Peseta emission.
