Alborea is a small municipality in Albacete province, Castilla-La Mancha. This note was issued during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican government's decree of 1936 permitted local authorities — including town councils with negligible financial resources — to print emergency fractional currency to address the catastrophic shortage of small change. Hundreds of Spanish municipalities did exactly this, producing notes of wildly varying quality and legitimacy.
The Gari Montllor catalogue remains the authoritative reference for these Spanish local issues, and the -B suffix here denotes a distinct variety within the Alborea 1 Peseta type.
