Obverse description Central field displays the large numeral '1' above the denomination legend 'PESETA' in bold relief, framed by an elaborate decorative cartouche of interlaced Gothic-style scrollwork and foliate ornaments. The four quadrants of the cartouche incorporate heraldic emblems of the Spanish kingdoms: the castle of Castile, the lion of León, the horizontal bars of Aragon, and the chain of Navarre, along with a pomegranate at the base. The entire design is encircled by a raised beaded border.
