| Obverse description | The obverse bears no central pictorial device; instead, the entire field is occupied by a multi-line commercial inscription in bold raised capitals. The merchant's name WILLIAM PRATT arcs along the upper periphery, while the central field carries the legend DIRECT IMPORTER OF EVERY DESCRIPTION OF LINEN DRAPERY AND CLOTHING arranged in horizontal lines, with the word AND enclosed within an oval cartouche. Decorative scroll flourishes separate the upper and lower portions of the central text.
