Obverse description Diademed effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, with hair gathered and adorned with a tiara or diadem, rendered in high relief against a flat field. The portrait is attributed to engraver Leonard Charles Wyon, whose initials LCW appear in the legend. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust along the periphery, reading VICTORIA D:G: BRITANNIAR:REG:F:D:, with the engraver's initials and date 1856 incorporated into the inscription.
