Piedforts — coins struck on planchets of double or greater thickness than the circulation issue — were produced primarily as presentation pieces or for official archive purposes, not for commerce. Jamaica's colonial coinage in this period was administered through the Royal Mint in London, and pattern and piedfort strikes of this type were almost certainly produced for Colonial Office records or as gifts to officials rather than for any monetary purpose. The KM#Pn2 designation confirms its pattern status.
Surviving examples are exceptionally rare; Jamaican piedfort patterns from the 1860s appear at auction perhaps once a decade.
