| Obverse description | Second laureate effigy of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair gathered into a bun and secured with a ribbon, commonly known as the 'Bun Head' portrait, modelled by Leonard Charles Wyon after William Wyon's earlier design. The truncation of the bust is visible at the lower field. The royal legend encircles the effigy, rendered in Latin. Numerous die varieties exist throughout the series, including differences in the number of leaves in the wreath and ribbon thickness. |
