Pellets are positioned above and below the divided legend, with a pellet flanked by two small crosses interspersed between the two lines. The inscription is crudely lettered in the hammered Anglo-Viking style characteristic of the early Eboracum mint issues. The overall design is strikingly simple, reflecting the transitional nature of Viking coinage in Northumbria during the early tenth century. |
