Obverse description Two-line votive inscription across the field, reading SCI PE / TRI MO, invoking the coinage of Saint Peter, the patron saint of York. Pellets are positioned above and below the divided legend, with a pellet flanked by two small crosses interspersed between the two lines. The inscription is crudely lettered in the hammered Anglo-Viking style characteristic of the early Eboracum mint issues. The overall design is strikingly simple, reflecting the transitional nature of Viking coinage in Northumbria during the early tenth century.
