| Obverse description | Crude bust of the ruler facing right in the Hiberno-Norse style, rendered with characteristic schematic features including a prominent eye, diadem or helmet, and rudimentary drapery at the truncation. A large curved ornamental line frames the bust to the right, a distinctive feature of Hiberno-Norse coinage derived from Anglo-Saxon prototypes but executed with increasing stylization. The field is flat and unadorned, and the design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, composed of degenerate Latin letterforms, runs clockwise around the periphery within a linear border. |
