The overall design is purely mercantile in character, with no pictorial elements, consistent with Victorian-era trade token practice. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Central shield of the early unofficial arms of Australia, quartered with depictions of a bull, a sailing ship, a ram, and a pick and shovel, surmounted by a rising sun with radiating rays. The shield is supported on the dexter by an emu and on the sinister by a kangaroo, both rendered in relief. A scrolled ribbon below the shield bears the legend ADVANCE AUSTRALIA. The peripheral legend PEACE & PLENTY arcs across the upper field, and the date 1857 appears in large numerals at the base, all within a beaded border. |
