| Obverse description | Entirely typographic design within a beaded border. The circular legend ROBERT HYDE & Co and MELBOURNE arcs around the periphery, separated by ornamental stops. An inner raised ring frames the central field, which carries a multi-line inscription in bold raised capital letters reading GENERAL MARINE STORE, separated by a horizontal rule from the lower text SHIPPERS OF RAGS GLASS METALS & C. The overall design is purely mercantile in character, with no pictorial elements, consistent with Victorian-era trade token practice. |
